The silicon content in the casting exceeded standard levels, which led to an increase in temperature inside the converter and required the use of more cooling materials such as lime and ore. This imbalance contributed to the abnormal outburst.
At the final stage of casting, an uncontrolled leakage of slag occurred, affecting the lower part of the movable hood. The company clarified that there was no explosion, minor structural damage, and repairs are planned to be completed within a few working shifts.
The analysis of technological data confirmed that both the prevention systems and the extraction equipment are functioning normally. Internal inspections initiated immediately after the incident also confirmed that the entire incident was organized in accordance with an external contingency plan. In accordance with the standard procedure, Acciaierie d'Italia has already notified all relevant authorities and will provide them with a detailed technical report shortly.
The update comes as the Taranto plant continues to solve operational problems and carry out restoration work on several units. However, the company stressed that the security systems in this case reacted correctly again and that the repair work was progressing without affecting other departments.
