The German company Feralpi Stahl is joining Juwi to develop regional wind farms for environmentally friendly steel production.

German steel producer Feralpi Stahl has announced that it is accelerating the transition to low-carbon steel production through a new collaboration with German renewable energy developer Juwi. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly explore the possibility of developing regional wind farms capable of supplying renewable electricity to Feralpi Stahl's rebar manufacturing facilities in Riza. If implemented, this initiative will strengthen regional energy sustainability, reduce emissions, and increase local participation in Germany's transition to clean energy.

Regional wind farms for the production of environmentally friendly steel

The planned cooperation is focused on two upcoming wind energy projects in the Mittelzachsen district. These projects, one with five turbines and the other with six, are expected to be operational by 2029. Each turbine is designed to generate approximately 20 million kWh per year.

In addition, Feralpi Stahl has the opportunity to participate through direct investment, provided that the economic basis is viable.

Decarbonization commitments and investment strategy

Uwe Reinecke, CEO of Feralpi Stahl, stressed that the company has consistently decarbonized its production processes and considers cooperation with Juwi as a potential step towards the production of completely environmentally friendly steel in Rize. The company has already invested more than 220 million euros in its facilities in Germany.

Feralpi Group's comprehensive climate strategy aims to achieve zero emissions by 2050.
