MPs consider nationalization the only way to prevent the closure of 40 ArcelorMittal facilities in France. She accused the company of offshoring, insufficient investments and the inability to modernize production, despite receiving government subsidies.
They estimate the cost of nationalization at 3 billion and believe that this is an important step for the early start of decarbonization of blast furnaces, otherwise the industry may come under pressure from future European regulations.
Government factions consider this measure ineffective, not solving the problem of competition from China and shifting the crisis of the industry onto taxpayers. In turn, RN offered a "golden share" – a state veto on strategic decisions without direct control.
To ensure the future of the steel industry in Europe, says the head of ArcelorMittal France, it is necessary to address two main issues of concern to the sector: falling demand and global overcapacity, which lead to massive imports of subsidized Chinese steel at low prices and have a devastating impact on Europe.
Poland does not exclude the purchase of ArcelorMittal assets in the event of the company's withdrawal from the market.
