The Indian company OMC has received an environmental permit to expand the Kurmitar iron ore mine to 6 million tons per year.

Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), a state-owned enterprise of the government of the state of Odisha in eastern India, has received approval to conduct an environmental impact assessment (EIA) and an environmental management plan (EMP) to increase the capacity of the Kurmitar iron ore mine from 2.4 million tons per year to 6 million tons per year, the government said. The Kurmitar Iron and Manganese Mine, located in Sundargarh district of Odisha State, covers an area of 651 hectares and expansion will not require the acquisition of any private land, the official added.

OMC prepares operations to increase production

At a recent project review meeting, senior company officials ordered an increase in mechanized mining operations to 1,200 tons per hour to support increased production volumes. The plan also includes the installation of a fully mechanized primary sorting and crushing plant to increase operational efficiency and productivity.
