Voestalpine to supply rails for major track repairs in Ukraine

Ukrainian Railways has announced that it has signed a new procurement agreement with Voestalpine, a subsidiary of Voestalpine Railway Systems, an Austrian steel mill, for an additional 10,000 tons of railway rails. New ordered rails are expected to start arriving after the completion of existing deliveries, with an estimated start date for additional deliveries being May 2026.

The investments are funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as part of the Emergency Support for Ukrainian Railways initiative. Thanks to this new agreement, the total volume of contracted rail supplies will reach approximately 46,000 tons, which will allow the construction or repair of 358 km of railway tracks across the network.

According to the Ukrainian Railway, the expansion of rail supplies will make it possible to complete major repairs, increase train speeds and increase the overall capacity of the national railway network.
