TCUD: Turkey's steel imports will decline in October 2025, exports continue to grow

Crude steel production in October this year rose 3.1 percent year-on-year to 3.21 million tons in Turkey, the world's eighth-largest steel producing country, while production in the first 10 months rose 1.2 percent year-on-year to 31.27 million tons, according to a statement released by the Turkish Steel Association (TCUD). Turkey's billet and slab production stood at 2.07 million tonnes and 1.13 million tonnes in October, up 9.2 percent and 6.5 percent year-on-year, respectively. Turkey produced 19.88 million tons of billets in the January-October period, up 4.7 percent, versus 11.39 million tons of slabs, down 4.4 percent from the same period in 2024.

Turkey's finished steel consumption rose 7.2 percent year-on-year to 3.31 million tons in the month, up from October Turkey's finished steel consumption rose 7.2 percent year on year to 3.31 million tons. Turkey's steel exports rose 18.7 percent to 1.17 million tons in October, and the value of those exports increased 8.2 percent year-on-year to $785.69 million. In the first 10 months, the country's steel exports rose 12.6 percent to 12.54 million tons, and the value of those exports increased 4.1 percent to $8.49 billion year on year. Exports of flat and long products from January to October amounted to 5.48 million tons and 6.57 million tons, respectively, increasing by 11.0 percent and 10.9 percent year on year, and exports of semi-finished products amounted to 497.6 thousand tons

In October, steel imports to Turkey decreased by 10.8 percent to 1.49 million tons, in while the value of these imports fell 14.1 percent to $1.02 billion year on year. Between January and October, the country's steel imports increased 13.8 percent to 15.65 million tons, and the value of those imports rose 1.6 percent to $10.92 billion, both year-on-year. In terms of imported products, imports of flat and long products in the first 10 months amounted to 7.49 million tons and 1.26 million tons, respectively, increasing by 11.4 percent and 15.6 percent year on year, while imports of semi-finished products amounted to 6.88 million tons.

In the first 10 months, Turkey's steel export to import ratio increased to 77.76. percent compared to 75.89 percent recorded in the same period of the previous year.
