India's crude steel production was tentatively estimated at 14.147 million tons in December 2025, up 3.2 percent from the corresponding month of the previous year, according to data released by the Joint Committee of Mills (JPC) under the Ministry of Steel on Friday, January 9.
The data showed total crude steel production between April and December of the 2025-26 fiscal year at 123.873 million tons, an increase of 10.8 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
The production of finished steel in December 2025 is estimated at 13.072 million tons, which is two percent more. The total production of finished steel in the period from April to December of the 2025-26 fiscal year amounted to 117.644 million tons, an increase of 9.5% year-on-year.
According to the data, steel consumption in December 2025 amounted to 14.253 million tons, an increase of 10.4% year-on-year. Total steel consumption in the period from April to December amounted to 119.299 million tons, an increase of 6.8% year-on-year.
Exports of finished steel in December 2025 totaled 616,000 tons, an increase of 38 percent year-on-year, while imports totaled 459,000 tons, a decrease of 45.5 percent, the data showed.
