AGSI is among a small number of parties involved. who submitted proposals for the acquisition of SSUK, which was previously owned by Liberty Steel. SSUK was declared "hopelessly insolvent" and put into compulsory liquidation in August, prompting the UK government to seek buyers to retain domestic steelmaking capacity, as previously reported by SteelOrbis.
SSUK operates steel mills in Rotherham and Stocksbridge, both located in South Yorkshire. At the time of its collapse, about 1,500 people worked at SSUK enterprises. According to media reports, it remains unclear how far the negotiations between AGSI and the UK government have progressed, and the commercial terms of any offer have not been disclosed.
In response to inquiries, a representative of the UK government confirmed his commitment to the future of steel production and steel jobs at the plant, while stressing that the insolvency process is managed independently.
