Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation will build a new passenger vehicle plant through its subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India limited (MSIL) in the western state of Gujarat, the company said in a statement on Tuesday, January 13.
The company said land is being acquired for a new passenger vehicle plant with a capacity of one million units per annum.
Vehicles to be produced at the facility will be sold in the Indian market and exported. The date for the opening of the new plant and the models that will be produced at the plant are yet to be determined.
The expansion project follows Suzuki Motors' announcement last August that it would invest approximately $8 billion in India over the next five to six years, including the start of commercial vehicle production in Gujarat.
The new plant will be MSIL's fifth manufacturing facility in the country.
