The construction of an integrated railway network worth more than $ 37 billion will require about 800 thousand tons of metal products, which will give an excellent opportunity to earn steel suppliers to the region, said Mr. Saad Al Mukhannadi General Executive Director.
The project provides for the construction of metro and two small transit railway terminals in Doha, as well as an international line for freight and passenger trains, which will connect Qatar with Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The total length of the new railway line will be more than 700 km. The technical consultant of the project was the German company Deutsche Bahn.
The first contracts for the supply of metal rolling will be concluded at the end of March, and the construction of the international railway line is planned to begin in the second quarter of 2014. The entire integrated network should be completed in full until 2026.
Saad Al Mukhannadi calls on the suppliers of metal products to contact Qatar Rail and give their commercial offers.
In March, Qatar Rail will hold a special seminar in Doha at which he will clarify the investment capabilities of the project.
One of the main applicants for the supply of steel rental to Qatar is the Austrian Voestalpine, which has already become an active supplier to the market of the Persian Gulf countries (GCC).
The Persian Gulf countries plan to invest about $ 100 billion in laying from 6,000 to 8000 km of new railway tracks until 2020 in order to ultimately connect all six GCC member countries by rail.
