Italy's ADI commissioners demand 7 billion euros in damages from ArcelorMittal

Комиссары ADI Италии требуют от ArcelorMittal возмещения ущерба в размере 7 миллиардов евро

According to international media reports, the extraordinary Commissioners of the Acciaierie d'Italia (ADI), formerly Ilva, have filed a lawsuit in a Milan court demanding damages of 7 billion euros from a former ArcelorMittal shareholder.

The move comes at a time when the Italian government is continuing the process of finding a new buyer for ADI, which is currently under extraordinary management.

As previously reported in December last year, Italian Minister of Industry and Production Adolfo Urso said that members of the commission would file a claim for damages in the amount of 5 billion euros after the plant's management came under public control in early 2024. The Italian company is its parent group.

At the same time, the commission members state that the inspections revealed serious deficiencies in maintenance and damage to facilities at the Taranto site, which directly affects production facilities. The dossier also mentions alleged problems related to management and decision-making processes, including the hypothesis of a "parallel" management structure that could bypass the company's usual corporate bodies.

Regarding the sale process, ADI remains under pressure due to high energy costs and weak demand, while continuity of operations at the facility is seen as critical to Italy's production supply chain. According to previous statements from the companies, several expressions of interest were received during 2025, and only a limited number of parties were willing to purchase the entire asset perimeter.

Thus, the legal dispute and the development of the sale process remain two key files for the future of Italy's main steelmaking center.
