Brazil exported 16,900 metric tons (mt) of rebar in February, compared with a reported total of 52,500 tons in January, a decline of 68 percent, according to data released today by SECEX, Brazil's Foreign Trade Secretariat of the Ministry, Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.
The sharp decline in exports reflects the lack of monthly exports to the United States, as well as fewer business days in February, resulting in shifting February shipments to March, SECEX said.
On the import side, rebar imports for February totaled 5,700 tons, down 18.6 percent from the 7,000 tons recorded in January.
All February exports were destined for South America and shipped by Gerdau. (12,200 tons at $581 per ton) and ArcelorMittal (4,700 tons at $704 per ton), FOB, SECEX said.
February imports from Russia amounted to 5,700 tons at $496/ton, also FOB, they said.
