The majority of wire factory workers are affected
According to Liberty Steel, the layoffs primarily affect employees of the wire plant, a factory that manufactures industrial fences, wire products, and other finished products.
The plant employs just over 600 people, of which about 300 people work at the wire factory. The company said that most of these workers are expected to be affected, although the exact number has not been disclosed. Different groups of employees go on vacation in stages.
The company also stated that the market was affected by an increase in the volume of unfairly sold imported products, which increased pressure on domestic producers. A company representative said that, like many manufacturers, Liberty Steel periodically adjusts production levels according to customer demand, while protecting the long-term health of the business.
