Samarco's net loss decreased in the second quarter; the Phase 3 project is underway

Brazilian iron ore and pellet producer Samarco reported a net loss of $328.5 million for the second quarter of 2026, compared with a net loss of $1.689 billion reported for the same period in the 2026-2025 report.

The result mainly reflects the company's reported negative financial result of $537.1 million, mainly due to ongoing compensation payments in connection with the collapse of the Fundao Dam in 2015.

Net sales revenue remained stable at $469.7 million, production costs increased by 28% to $252.9 million, gross profit decreased by 20% to $261.9 million, while operating profit recovered to $170.2 million after an operating loss of $237.4 million incurred in the second quarter of this year. 2025.

Sales of pellets remained stable at 3.9 million metric tons, while the average selling price increased by one percent to $122 per ton.

The third phase of the Samarco project, and the main investment program aimed at achieving a 100 percent share of the company's total iron ore production by 2028, has completed the technical and licensing requirements, which opens the final stage of the restart of production, as a result of which the company returns to its full production capacity of 30 million tons per year. the year.

The second half of the year is expected to be accompanied by stable operations and a clear action plan, with the company continuing to focus on safe operations and disciplined capital allocation while meeting damage compensation obligations and creating long-term value through operational reliability and sustainable growth.
