EUROFER supports CBAM expansion for metal products processing ahead of European Parliament vote

The European Steel Producers Association (EUROFER) has called on members of the European Parliament to support amendments aimed at closing the remaining loopholes in the EU's Carbon Boundary Regulation mechanism (CBAM) and ensuring comparable carbon costs for European steel producers and imported steel products.

Ahead of the vote in the European Parliament on September 15, which provides for the extension of the mechanism to processed products and measures to prevent circumvention of requirements,EUROFER stated that although CBAM entered its final phase in January 2026, many steel mills remain outside its scope. According to the association, foreign manufacturers can therefore avoid CAM costs by refining steel into finished products before exporting it to ЕС.
