According to data released by the German Steel Federation (WV Stahl), in July of this year, German steel production decreased by 1.8% year-on-year to 2.68 million tons, reflecting persistently weak demand in the country's steel market. The federation said the July decline marked the first year-on-year decline in German crude steel production in 2026, indicating a renewed decline in production amid weak demand. In the period from January to July 2026, German steel production increased by 6.8% year-on-year to 21.31 million tons.
In the reporting month, the volume of pig iron production in Germany amounted to 1.66 million tons, which is 4.5% less than last year, while production in January-July increased by 7.3% to 13.29 million tons.
Meanwhile, the country's hot-rolled steel production increased by 1.4% year-on-year to 2.54 million tons year-on-year. In July, it increased by 4.2% to 18.65 million tons in the first seven months of this year.
