The Estonian company Stargate Hydrogen, which manufactures electrolyzers, announced the signing of a grant agreement worth 20.6 million euros with the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and Environment (CINEA) within the framework of the EU Innovation Fund to expand its production operations in Tallinn..
The new production facility will be built in stages and will have an annual production capacity of 250 MW of alkaline electrolysis electrodes, 150 MW for pressure alkaline plants and 66 MW for electrolysis systems. According to representatives of Stargate Hydrogen, the expansion will allow the company to equip larger Power-to-X projects with European-made equipment and increase production capacity for industrial applications of environmentally friendly hydrogen.

The company's technology includes patented cell design technologies and electrodes are coated with a patented ceramic-based catalyst that replaces precious metals. Stargate stated that this approach reduces dependence on imports of critical raw materials, while supporting more economical hydrogen production.
It is expected that in the first ten years of the project, approximately three million tons of CO2 equivalent emissions will be avoided through the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies. the use of hydrogen in hard-to-reach industries, including steel and other energy-intensive industries.
