War with coal power plants acquires global proportions: after the United States, China refused them

Following the United States, the coal power plants decided to declare China. So the PRC State Council decided to ban the construction of new coal power plants near Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdun. The purpose of the prohibition of construction is to reduce air pollution in megacities in the east of the country.

Experts have the hope that by 2017, the inhabitants of Beijing will breathe less than 25 percent of harmful particles than in 2012. Since 1988, annual coal consumption in China has increased from 1 billion tons to 4 billion tons this year.

Thanks to the decision to translate power plants that will be built in the future, to natural gas, nuclear fuel and solar energy, China hopes to reduce the dependence of the electric power sector on coal from 70 to 5 percent. In addition, the transition to electric generators diesel power station will be encouraged. The implementation of these plans will lead to an increase in the construction of nuclear power plants and the growth of China’s nuclear potential from the current 12.5 GW to 50 GW by 2017.

As previously reported, the administration of the American President Obama adheres to the same scenario, but with small amendments. New coal power plants in the United States will be put into operation only when equipping them with high -tech capture and absorption of carbon dioxide. From the point of view of capital costs, due to the large high cost of equipping power plants with these systems, no investor will be at such a risk. In fact, this condition puts a cross on the construction of new coal stations.

It is proposed that the following values ​​will become the limit for the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere by power plants: 500 kg per 1 mW/h for coal stations, and 450 kg per 1 mW/h for stations operating on natural gas. To date, the most modern coal enterprises are thrown into the atmosphere of 850 kg of carbon monoxide by 1 MW/h, while the average value of the harmful emissions of the gas station is on average 350 kg per 1 mW/h.
