According to the recently published by the statement of the head of the metal distribution department of the Mexican Mexican Metallurgy Canacero, Mr. Salvador Kesada Salinas, the Ministry of Economy of this country plans to take measures to tighten the rules of steel imports. These measures are designed to protect the Mexican steel industry from unfair trade practice.
In the very near future, the importers of metal products will be required to first notify and receive the approval of the Ministry of Economy for the import of 113 types of metal rolling and steel products, Caesada said on the sidelines of the third Canacero conference in Mexico City.
According to the new rules, importers will be required to provide comprehensive information about the origin of imports, prices and its purpose, in order to prevent illegal trade practice, such as triangulation, dumping or false classification of metal products.
The innovation applies to imports of all countries without exception, including those that work with Mexico in the system of existing trade agreements. The Ministry of Economy takes 48 hours for the approval or deviation of steel imports.
“This is necessary to regulate the market and such measures have long been used in the USA and Canada,” said Mr. Kesada. The relevant decisions will be adopted within two weeks after long months of preliminary approvals, he added.
Recall that Mexico began an investigation against dumping when importing a metal rolling from China, Ukraine and Russia, since, according to the Ministry of Economy, this causes serious damage to the country's steel industry.
