The Italian Ministry of Industry stated that the Italian steel Riva Acciaio plans to go to court and take all the necessary steps in order to resume production at several of its factories in Northern Italy.
The last weeks, the owners of Riva, one of the largest factories in Europe, stopped the enterprise in Northern Italy and sent 1,400 workers home. This happened after the confiscation of their banking assets, which made the factory impossible. After a meeting with Riva representatives, the Italian ministry said that "the company demonstrated full readiness to cooperate to try to restart production, emphasizing the complexity of management and strong current financial problems caused by confiscation of assets."
Earlier this year, the tax police reported that it would capture assets in the amount of 8.1 billion euros belonging to the Riva family as part of the investigation of the alleged environmental crimes at the ILVA family group in southern Italy. Investigative sources reported that the tax police today seized 2.2 billion euros from the family.
