World production steel increased in August by another 5.2 percent - WSA

According to the World Steel Association (WorldSteel) World Metallurgical Association, in August 2013, global production of raw steel amounted to 130 million tons, which is 5.2 percent higher than in the APPG-2012, but 1.1 percent lower than in the previous month.

China in August smelted 66 million 300 thousand tons of steel, which is 12.8 percent more than in the APPG-2012.

At the same time, for eight months since the beginning of the year in 64 countries, WSA participants, 1 billion 50 million 708 thousand tons were melted, which is 2 percent higher than last year. Including the production of raw steel in Asia amounted to 706 million 452 thousand tons, which is 5.6 percent higher than the APPG-2012; In the European Union, the production of steel decreased by 4.9 percent, to 109 million 299 thousand tons and in North America decreased by 5.5 percent, to 78 million 516 thousand tons.

In August 2013, 5 million 800 thousand raw steel were produced in Russia, which is 1.9 percent less compared to APPG-2012. The production of steel in Ukraine in August 2013 amounted to 2 million 800 thousand tons, which is 4.1 percent higher than in August 2012.
