The Indonesia Government may limit the permissible number of terminals for loading export coal. These measures can be introduced in order to carry out more thorough control of supply and increase in income.
“Currently, coal can be exported from any place where the unloading and loading of raw materials is possible, it is very difficult for us to control such actions,” Eddie Praso, who holds the post of head of the coal department at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Indonesia, said today. “In the near future, we will definitely return to the discussion of the limit of the number of points for the shipment of coal ( PKU ) for export, determine which ports and points will function, and which will not avoid illegal supplies," added Prasojo.
Most Indonesian miners use barges to transport coal, which move to the ports along river networks and channels, then coal is overloaded to larger vessels. According to preliminary estimates of the Indonesian Mining Association per year, about 56 million tons of coal exported from the country of coal are not able to control. Because of this, the country's potential losses can be about 5500 billion rupees ($ 493 million).
Edie Prasojo believes that the government should control not only coal terminals, but also vehicles engaged in coal transportation. To date, the government is still studying ways to resolve this issue. The largest coal manufacturer in the country - PT Bumi Resources, as well as PT Adaro Energy, have their own terminals in Indonesia. According to Prasojo this year, Indonesia plans to obtain 391 million tons of coal, in 2012 this indicator amounted to 386 million tons.
