Steel production by direct restoration of iron is rapidly increasing - WSA

World steel production using the technology of direct iron restoration (DRI 1 ) continues to grow rapidly. According to the World Steel Association (WSA), the number of DRIs received in August 2013 increased by 13 percent compared to APPG-2012 and amounted to 5 million 190 thousand tons.

In the first eight months since the beginning of this year, the production of steel using DRI technology increased by 9.2 percent and amounted to 40 million 300 thousand tons.

As reported, according to the results of 2012, the production of DRI amounted to 55 million 400 thousand tons, which is 12.8 percent less than in 2011.

1 The direct restoration of iron (DRI Direct Reduced IRON) is the restoration of iron ore or pellets with gas (COs, h2, Nh3), solid carbon, gases and solid carbon together.
