Riddles of Russian statistics negatively affect the IPO in metallurgy

Russian statistics do not accurately reflect the state of affairs in the economy and, in particular in the construction sector of the Russian Federation. This opinion was voiced by the head of the corporate strategy of Severstal OJSC Andrei Laptev. According to him, there is a curious statistical phenomenon: a record high volume of consumption steel against the backdrop of a slowdown in Russia's economic growth.

The consumption of steel according to independent sources, such as Metal Expert, amounted to 44 million 100 thousand tons in the first half of 2013 in the first half of 2013, demonstrating a positive dynamics of 4 percent of the APPG-2012.

However, the official data of the Federal State Statistics Service indicate a very slow growth or even stagnation of the Russian economy. Since miracles in business is extremely rare, Andrei Laptev insists on the inaccuracy of public service data. For example, a high dissonance in the consumption of construction metal rolling (beams, channel and reinforcement) arises due to the fact that some of the construction work is not recorded and not “visible” for Rosstat.

Considering that the construction metal supply is the main growth driver in the metallurgy of the Russian Federation, Andrei Laptev predicts a certain decline in consumption in winter and a fairly high increase in consumption in the spring of next year. "There is a tendency to reduce consumer inflation in Russia, which means that the mortgage will continue to develop. The mortgage load on households in Russia is one of the lowest in the world, and the quality of housing and the number of meters per person is noticeably lower than the country with our income level," says Severstal's top manager.

In general, next year, the situation will be the same as IV 2013 - the growth in the consumption of metal products will somewhat ahead of GDP growth due to statistical inaccuracies.
