ArcelorMittal to supply steel for two cruise ships

ArcelorMittal has signed a contract for the supply of steel to the STX shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, as the company is the preferred supplier. The two new ships will be built entirely of European steel: the hull plates supplied by the Spanish Gijon, while the decks are made at the Saint-Nazaire factory from the plate from Fos-sur-Mer.

The first cutting of the hull sheet metal, which is considered the beginning of construction, took place on November 21. Deliveries must be made by the end of 2018. The addressee is Royal Caribbean Cruises Limited and is expected to receive the first ship in 2018 and the second in 2020.

Earlier, a contract was signed for the supply of sheets for three other vessels of the company, and in the spring it received the first vessel from the Oasis series - Harmony of the Seas. It was the largest ship ever built by STX France. For the vessel 362 m long and 66 m wide, 60 thousand tons of steel were used.
