Currently, Kazakhstan is actively discussing the project to create an international nuclear fuel bank, which is under the auspices of the IAEA. The site for a low enriched (below 5%) uranium will be provided by the ulbinsky Metallurgical Plant.
For more than 45 years, the ulbinsky Metallurgical Plant has been processing uranium and owns all the necessary licenses for surgery with uranium hexofluoride. The project involves the delivery and storage of a limited reserve of uranium hexaffeoride used as a raw material for the manufacture of fuel used at nuclear power plants. For these purposes, a plot of 300 square meters will be prepared at the factory warehouse.
The project to provide a site for storing materials of the IAEA is a contribution to Kazakhstan in the struggle for the use of nuclear fuel for peaceful purposes. The process of enrichment of uranium will comply with the requirements of the standards of safety standards, which contain more than a hundred documents. In the old days, the ulbinsky Metallurgical Plant kept ten times more uranium raw materials than the project is provided, so we are not talking about additional burden on the country's ecology.
