Steel Dynamics, Inc. (SDI) has yet to make a final decision on where its new flat rolling mill will be located. The company announced plans to build a new $ 1.8 billion steel mill in the Southwest United States. Several potential locations are being considered, including San Patricio County, according to SDI.
During a meeting with SDI officials at the San Patricio County Civic Center in Cintona, CEO Mark Millett said the company was still considering several properties in Louisiana and Texas. Meanwhile, more than 200 people gathered for the meeting welcomed SDI to San Antonio County to become part of the Texas manufacturing complex. They hoped the city would benefit from jobs and the potential growth that could result from the proposed SDI mill.
SDI plans to start construction of a new mill in 2020, after completion of construction in the near future. The plant is expected to be operational by 2021.
