ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih purchased a special coke extinguishing wagon

The new quenching car will be used at the block of coke oven batteries No. 3–4, the reconstruction of which was carried out in 2007–2008. Three such cars are used here. They are designed to receive red-hot coke discharged from a coke oven. After quenching with water, cooling and removing moisture, the coke is sent to blast furnaces.

Yuri Sleptsov, deputy head of the mechanical equipment shop of the coke shop No. 1 "ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih":

- Quenching cars are operated in an extremely aggressive environment - when dispensing hot coke, its temperature reaches 1200-1300 degrees, which, along with high humidity, leads to corrosion of the metal parts of the car. To avoid this, "Dneprotyazhmash" was immediately assigned the necessary parameters. 90% of the special wagon was made of stainless steel, and the plates for the protection of metal structures were made of ductile iron. The volume of the quenching car is designed for the coking chamber and is 30.9 cubic meters of coke. For the safety of personnel, the manufacturer installed special handrails and fences on it. After commissioning, the car will be put into operation in April.

For coke production, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih uses six coke oven batteries, four of which have been completely reconstructed. This year the company plans to produce 2.878 million tons of 6% moisture coke, which is 6% more than in the previous year.
