Italian smelter builder Danieli has been awarded a contract to replace the primary descaler, hot plate leveling line, and # 1 sheet steel cutting line at JSW Steel USA's Baytown, Texas. The intention of the steel mill is to improve the productivity of the mill.
The first phase of the project has already begun and the commissioning of new equipment is expected by the fall of this year.
The second phase of the project was confirmed by JSW in September 2018. The goal is to replace the reversing rolling mill, install a pre-leveler, direct cooling and accelerated cooling, completely replace the cooling layers and add a new cold sheet leveler.
Among other Level 2 automation features provided by Danieli Automation, the new four-plate rolling stand will be equipped with planar rolling (PVR) technology, which will increase productivity by approximately 2%.
