Worldsteel announces 2019 Sustainable Steel Champions

The World Steel Association has recognized 9 sustainability champions for their performance in 2019. The 2019 Steel Sustainability Champions are:
ArcelorMittal
BlueScope Steel Limited
China Steel Corporation
JSW Steel Limited
Nippon Steel Corporation
Tata Steel Europe
Tata Steel Limited
Tenaris
Ternium

BlueScope Steel Limited, China Steel Corporation and Nippon Steel Corporation have been named Champions for the first time. JSW Steel Limited and Ternium are recognized for the second consecutive year. ArcelorMittal, Tata Steel Europe, Tata Steel Limited and Tenaris are recognized for the third consecutive year.

For the third year in a row, the Sustainable Steel Champions of Steel program has given high marks to those metallurgical companies that demonstrate their commitment to sustainable development most clearly.

To gain recognition, steel companies must
commit to: sign the worldsteel Sustainable Development Charter
Action: Provide data on 6 worldsteel sustainability indicators (material use efficiency, environmental management systems, lost time injury frequency, employee training, investment in new processes and products, distributed economic value) Provide lifecycle inventory data for the worldsteel data collection program which covers over 50% of the company's crude steel production data and is less than 5 years old.
