The steelmaking enterprise of the Donetsk region Elektrostal has been idle since the beginning of this year, having stopped the production of continuously cast billets, while in the same period last year it smelted 29 thousand tons of products.
In March, the plant was also idle in December, as in March, February and January, while in November 2 thousand tons of products were smelted, in October - 10 thousand tons. At the same time, he recalled that from January to mid-March 2019, the enterprise was completely idle and partially resumed work from mid-March 2020, after which it worked at a third of capacity or less.
Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Economic Development Dmitry Kisilevsky at a meeting held on February 22 of this year in the parliamentary committee on the functioning of metal enterprises and their provision with scrap metal, pointed out the need to prolong the export duty on scrap metal for the stable operation of factories. At the same time, he noted that due to the lack of steel scrap in Ukraine, the modern Elektrostal enterprise in Kurakhovo, Donetsk region, is idle, urging the state to deal with this problem.
As reported, in 2020, Elektrostal kept the output of continuously cast billets at the level of the previous year - 84 thousand tons. Since 2000, the Donetsk Metal-Rolling Plant (DMPZ) began to experience a shortage of purchased steel billets for its own rolling production, as a result of which it was decided to build a steel-making enterprise - "Elektrostal".
DMPZ specializes in the production and sale of metal products: long products, cast iron pipes, structural elements made of ferrous metals, nuts, shovels, etc.
