According to Worldsteel, in January-March 2021 metallurgical enterprises of the countries of the world produced 358,230,000 tons of pig iron , of which 335,090,000 tons by the blast furnace method and 23,140,000 tons by the direct reduction method. This is 5.67% higher than in January-March 2021 (339,010,000 tons).

The first place belongs to the People's Republic of China, whose metallurgists produced 220,970,000 tons of pig iron in January-March 2021, which is 8.00% more than in the same period in 2020 (204.60 million tons). The share of Chinese pig iron in world production in the first quarter of 2021 is 61.7%. This is followed by India (204,602 tons), Japan (29,368 tons), Russia (27,404) and South Korea (17599 tons).

Ukraine (5,310,000 tons or 104.3% relative to January-March 2020) ranks 10th among 38 countries that produce pig iron.

World steel production in the first quarter of 2021 is 486,880,000 tons , which is 9.99% higher than in the three months of 2020 (442,670,000 tons).
The leader here is also the People's Republic of China, smelted 271,040,000 tons, which is 15.60% more than in January-March 2020 (234,460,000 tons). The PRC's share in world steel production is 55.7%. This is followed by India (296,272 tons), Japan (23,711 tons), the USA (20,353 tons), Russia (18,926 tons).

Ukraine (5,290,000 tons or 99.5% relative to January-March 2020) ranks 13th among 64 steel-producing countries.
