Pig iron imports in Turkey decreased in the first half of 2021

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), imports of pig iron in Turkey amounted to about 553,000 tons in the first half of this year, down 10% from the same period a year ago. The import value amounted to about USD 292.2 million, which is 51.2% more than a year earlier.

Among them, imports from Ukraine accounted for the largest share - about 165 600 tons, which is 23.6% more than a year earlier. Russia took second place with a volume of about 159,400 tons, which is 51.8% less than a year earlier; it is followed by Brazil - 117,000 tons, an increase of 102.45% year on year.

In June alone, imports of pig iron to Turkey amounted to about 118,000 tons, an increase of 1.4% on a monthly basis and 6.2% on an annualized basis. Import value was approximately US $ 69 million, up 5.7% from the previous month and up 107% year on year.
