According to the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), in January-September of this year, exports of finished steel from China amounted to 87.955 million tons, which is 9.2 percent more than last year.
China's finished steel exports in October are likely to decline on the back of a high base of 11.18 million tonnes recorded in October 2024, while further trade frictions and tax increases will also have a negative impact on Chinese steel exports. However, total volumes will remain at a high level of at least 9 million tons per month for the rest of the year.
In September, China's finished steel imports totaled 548,000 tons, down 0.36 percent month-on-month and up 9.6 percent year-on-year. In the first nine months of this year, imports of finished steel to China amounted to 4,532 million tons, which is 12.6 percent less than in the same period last year.
