According to a report in the Turkish newspaper Ekonomi, speaking at the Transforming Leadership Summit held recently in Sakarya, Fuat Tosyali, chairman of the Turkish holding company Tosyalı, as well as the automobile companies BMC and Togg, said that Tosyalı has surpassed a significant threshold in the production of green steel. Mr. Tosyaly stated that Tosyaly has reduced its average carbon emissions by 2.5 mt per 1,000 mt of coal-fired steel to 650 kg.
Stressing that the share of steel production in global carbon emissions is crucial for global warming, Mr. Tosyali noted that the Carbon Boundary Adjustment Mechanism implemented in Europe and investments in renewable energy sources are transforming the industry. Referring to the transformation carried out by Tosyalı Holding, he said that reducing carbon emissions below 500 kg would achieve the company's goal of decarbonization.
Countdown to hydrogen steel production
Saying that Tosyalı has started investing in hydrogen fuel production to reduce its carbon footprint, the company's chairman stated, "We have not yet been able to use hydrogen directly in steel production, but we are very close to it."
