Turkish Steel Mill Kocaer Çelik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.
Ş. Announced that the Science-Based Goals Initiative (SBTi) has officially approved its short-term (2030) and long-term (2050) targets for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
With this certification, Kocaer Çelik becomes the only Turkish steel producer whose emission reduction targets have been confirmed and remain active within SBTi.
Reduction of concrete targets
As part of the short-term goals for 2030, Kocaer Çelik strives to:
- reduce the absolute emissions of category 1 and category 2 by 42 percent and
- reduce the intensity of category 3 emissions per ton of steel by 51.6 percent compared to the 2022 baseline.
By 2050, the company has committed to:
- reduce category 1 and 2 emissions by 90 percent and
- reduce the intensity of category 3 emissions by 97 percent per ton of steel.
Fully consistent with scientific data on global climate
These goals are in line with the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The approval confirms that Kocaer Çelik's emission reduction strategy and the overall roadmap for sustainable development fully comply with SBTi's scientific criteria in all areas of emissions.
