ERG strengthens Kazakhstan's position in the global production of HBI
The new HBI ERG plant, developed through its subsidiary QazIron ERG LLP, will be equipped with MIDREX Flex technology. It is designed to produce two million tons of HBI per year with a metallization rate of at least 93.5 percent and an iron content of about 90 percent. The Flex system will eventually enable the transition from natural gas to hydrogen, bringing the facility in line with the long-term ERG decarbonization roadmap and the national strategy for the environmentally friendly industry of Kazakhstan.
Contribution to new jobs and regional importance
ERG's investments will create more than 1,000 jobs during construction and operation, strengthening the industrial base of the Rudn district. Upon completion, the plant will help Kazakhstan benefit from its rich iron ore reserves, diversify exports towards green metallurgy products, and reduce dependence on imports of semi-finished iron products.
