Rizhao Steel achieves 95% automation level in steelmaking

The British company Primetals Technologies has successfully implemented advanced process automation and digital control systems at the integrated steel mill of the Chinese metallurgical company Rizhao Steel in Shandong Province. The project brings the company closer to full digital steel production, achieving 95 percent automation and setting the benchmark for "single-button steel production" in global production environments.

Primetals Technologies supplies complete plant automation for Rizhao Steel

Primetals Technologies has completed the commissioning of Level 2 automation systems and process packages covering converter converters, bucket furnaces and RH degassing units at Rizhao Steel. The integrated system allows operators to control complex steelmaking operations using centralized automation platforms.

The newly implemented system ensures that 95 percent of Rizhao Steel's production process is now automated, which is a crucial step towards the intelligent ecosystem of the steel mill.

Intelligent simulation and real-time operator guidance

The system is based on intelligent predictive models that calculate critical process parameters such as temperature, chemical composition, and alloy addition time. These models reduce the need for manual input by guiding operators through each step of the process, while ensuring accuracy and repeatability.

The automation package includes real-time analytical data and dashboards, allowing staff to monitor
