The project highlights the growing Chinese investments in Africa's steel sector, which aim to reduce import dependence and strengthen domestic production capacity.
Construction progress and project timeline
According to Yu Xiaotan, vice chairman of the RSIN Group, the site planning and foundation work has already been completed. The plant is also on track to begin operation by mid-2026.
After commissioning, the company will produce hot-rolled steel (HRC), iron steel doors and gas cylinders. This production will help reduce Nigeria's dependence on imported steel products.
Governor Abiodun emphasized that the project reflects Ogun State's role as Nigeria's industrial hub, noting that each new investment expands employment opportunities, increases productivity and regional prosperity.
