Another role of tungsten in the form of incandescent filaments in light bulbs has decreased dramatically, but alloy steel continues to consume. There was another niche in the form of armor-piercing cores for projectiles, but there is great competition from depleted uranium, which is a waste and therefore a priori cheaper. Until the United States quarreled with China, they did not need their own tungsten production. Now they are on the path of fierce competition, and therefore the United States needs tungsten.
