Voestalpine supplies premium rails and switches for new high-speed line in Austria

The Austrian steel manufacturer Voestalpine has announced that its subsidiary Voestalpine Railway Systems has supplied a complete set of premium railway infrastructure, including ultra-long rails, advanced switch systems and digital monitoring technologies, for the new high-speed Austrian railway Koralm. The line, which has been in operation since December 14, 2025, will connect Graz and Klagenfurt and will include the longest railway tunnel in Austria's history.

As part of the agreement, Voestalpine supplied about 290 kilometers of 120-meter rails produced at the rolling mill in Donawitz. The rails, designed for speeds up to 250 km/h, provide improved track performance, longer service life and lower maintenance costs.

High-tech switches and digital systems

The project also includes 235 switches manufactured at Voestalpine Railway Systems' Zeltweg plant with digital monitoring technology produced by Weichenwerk Wörth in collaboration with the Austrian Federal Government. Railways.
