A similar cycle of sharp growth occurred in 2021, when the total market capitalization of REE (rare earth producers) shares increased by 150% over the year. This significantly exceeds the shares of oil and gas companies and IT technology companies! The industrial boom following COVID-19, growing demand for electric vehicles and environmentally friendly technologies, government initiatives to secure the supply of critical minerals, and widespread investor interest in strategic commodities have contributed to this growth. However, the cycle then reversed, and cumulative estimates declined by 43% in 2022, by 22% in 2023, and by another 7% in 2024.
From a recent Ernst&Young study on rare earths: A boom in the growth of REM companies awaits us
Investments and markets: Share prices of companies working with rare earths have increased significantly due to concerns about supply stability. The growth of investment attractiveness is observed among the minor players of the industry.
