According to preliminary data from the US Department of Commerce, monthly steel imports to the United States in August this year decreased by 16.3 percent compared to July and by 21.1 percent year-on-year, amounting to 1,700,833 tons. In value terms, U.

S. steel imports totaled $1.84 billion in August, compared with $2.19 billion in July and $2.59 billion in August last year.

The main sources of steel imports to the United States in June include Canada with 275,651 tons, Brazil with 243,822 tons, Mexico with 177,450 tons, South Korea with 159,768 tons, and Japan. Imports of semi-finished products in August amounted to 408,630 tons, compared with 490,925 tons in July and 475,111 tons in August last year. Imports of flat rolled products in August amounted to 570,504 tons, compared with 711,500 tons in July and 897,699 tons in August 2024. Imports of rolled products totaled 313,019 tons in August, compared with 374,307 tons in July and 336,581 tons in August last year. Imports of pipes and tubes totaled 330,767 tons in August, compared with 371,651 tons in July and 355,338 tons in August 2024.
