Indian state-owned steelmaker Steel Authority of India limited's (SAIL) IISCO steel plant has awarded a contract to build its first blast furnace (BF) to a consortium led by Daniel Corus, marking the start of a $5.08 billion modernization project, the company said in a statement on Tuesday, December 9.
The 4.3 million tonnes per annum crude steel blast furnace is part of the increasing power. from the total capacity of the IISCO plant to 7.1 million tonnes per annum.
The company said that the project has already received environmental clearance earlier, starting the process of issuing various components of the expansion project.
The expansion project will be built on the site of the existing IISCO steel plant in the eastern state of West Bengal and the additional land required for the expansion is already available to the company.
