German plant SMS group announced that JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd. (JVML), a subsidiary of Indian steel manufacturer JSW Steel, has successfully commissioned a new 350 tonne Ruhrstahl Heraeus (RH) vacuum degassing plant at its Vijayanagara plant in India. The plant manufacturer said the plant incorporates the operational combination of an RH ladle rocker with a quick tank change and provides high quality steel production with an annual capacity of three million tonnes.
According to SMS group, this configuration marks an important step forward in secondary metallurgy, providing higher process efficiency, increased safety and increased productivity compared to conventional RH plants. SMS group explained that RH vacuum processing enables JVML to produce cleaner steel with superior mechanical properties to meet the requirements of sectors such as construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, automotive and energy.
Commenting on the project, Nikhil Agashe, Vice President, JSW Steel, said the new facility represents a significant step forward in production capabilities and grade flexibility. He noted that SMS group's solution integrates seamlessly into JVML's No. 4 steel plant, maximizing operational efficiency while improving safety and maintainability
