The decision to reopen the furnace is part of POSCO's broader efforts to stabilize production capacity and strengthen steel production in the face of global market challenges.
The repair work, which included comprehensive maintenance and replacement of equipment, lasted more than a year before it was completed with a restart. For POSCO and its customers, this restart marks a crucial step towards full normalization at the end of 2025.
With an annual capacity of about two million tons, the FINEX No. 3 furnace provides approximately 10-12 percent of the total production of molten iron at the Pohang plant, which makes its reactivation essential for POSCO's steel production facilities.
