Revealing the potential price for the first time, the Luxembourg government made a 14.5 million euro offer to acquire Liberty Dudelange, owned by the British steel company Liberty Steel, with the aim of repurposing the long-idle plant for new economic purposes, according to media reports.
In July, the government submitted an official offer to acquire the company, but did not disclose the offer price becauseEarlier it was reported about SteelOrbis.
The proposal is aimed at industrial buildings and structures on sites where Liberty Steel's operations used to be located, with conditions including the maintenance of assets until the transfer of ownership and access to relevant documents.
The proposal also addresses financial priorities, such as meeting creditors' preferential claims, including salary requirements and other obligations, until the transfer of ownership is completed. Former Liberty Steel employees whose contracts have been terminated will not have priority in re-employment under the current plan.
The government's application reflects ongoing efforts to secure strategic industrial assets and support economic recovery in the Dudelange region following the collapse of Liberty Steel's operations.
