The government has begun discussions on expanding the capacity of Steel Authority of India Limited's Bokaro Steel Mill (BSP) to 7.55 million tons per year from 5.25 million tons per year, Junior Minister of Steel Bhupatiraju Srinivasa Varma said in a statement on Tuesday, December 30.
A project to expand existing BSP deposits is being discussed. We will definitely do it.
The expansion of the steel mill is in line with the National Steel Policy (NSP) goal of achieving a domestic steel production capacity of 300 million tons per year by 2030, Varma said.
Current government discussions focused on the amount of capital investment needed to expand and implement advanced technologies that will ensure the production of environmentally friendly steel and emission control measures, he added.
