After the re-election of the President of the National Chamber of the ferrous metallurgy, Mr. Alonso Ancira Elizondo, the Director General of Altos Hornos de Mexico said that the steel industry and the Mexican government can no longer ignore the phenomenon as illegal trading activities affecting the country's metallurgium. The economic avalanche, generated by a crisis in Europe and slow growth in Asia, negatively affects this branch of Mexico.
Mr. Elizondo said that representatives of the steel industry will fight the authorities and legislators to modernize the rules of trade, since Mexico has enough funds to participate in the global economy. Emergency measures will include an increase in the flexibility and dexterity of the Ministry of Economics in international trade practice. He said: "We participate in the new economic games with the" Napoleonic rules "of the past, and we do not have tools for protecting the global excess of 320 million tons."
To everything, the open boundaries also made domestic industry dependent on unfair competition. Mr. Elizondo noted that imports from countries that do not have trade agreements grew by 170% in 2012, while domestic production decreased by 2%. At the same time, prices fell by about 30%, without benefit for end consumers.
In a particular case, unscrupulous competition and market instability threatens the national investment program, the size of which is more than 11 billion US dollars. The implementation of the program is scheduled for the next four years. It is aimed at strengthening the domestic industry of steel and the creation of industrial chains, which are important sources of employment in the country, such as automotive, metalworking and oil refining.
Mexico is afraid of unbridled imports Sali
