The Novolipetsk Metallurgical Plant (NLMK) was checked as a potential supplier of steel blanks intended for the production of large diameter of the Nord Stream Extance or Northern Stream in Russian project. A positive conclusion was issued by the Norwegian Certification Society of Det Norske Veritas (DNV). This was reported by the press service of NLMK.
Norwegian experts inspected the technological processes for the production of workpieces with a thickness of 355 mm and a width of 2150 mm in real production mode - from the preparation of scrap metal, to the casting of steel and non -marked processing of slabs. The subject of the audit was the quality control of the surface of the steel workpiece and its macrostructure.
In addition to production processes, Norwegian experts evaluated the compliance of NLMK technological documentation with international standards, checked the system of training and training of technological personnel of the equipped taps from Chelyabinsk converter workshop No. 2.
As a result of all conducted inspections and examinations, DNV confirmed the high quality of NLMK slabs and recommended that the Russian company be allowed to participate in the Northern Stream project.
Recall that the northern stream is not the only large project in which NLMC supplies steel blanks for the production of large diameter pipes. So last year, NLMK signed a long-term contract with a united metallurgical company (OMK) for the supply of slabs intended for the manufacture of a thick-line steel on the camp of 5,000 Vyksa Metallurgical Plant of OMK and large-diameter pipes, including Gazprom’s orders to expand the unified gas pipelines as part of the Bovanenkovo-Ukhte projects,, Ukhta-Torzhok and South Stream.
NLMK is admitted as a supplier of steel for the northern stream
